Concentration Project Ideas

1: I don't really know what I want I want to do for my concentration peice. I don't know what my strenghts are as an artist, so this decision has been pretty difficult for me. I think I want to focus on eyes, though.

2:  I've always been fascinated with eyes because eyes are the gateway to the soul. I believe you can tell a lot about a person by looking in their eyes. I would make each eye portray different personalities and histories. It's just an idea; it's not set-in-stone.

Conte Artists

As you know if you read my last post, we are working with charcoal and conte. Here are some pieces of beautiful artwork done by infamous artists who also use conte:

Georges Seurat, Le Chahut. 1889-1890

Gustav Klimt, The Kiss. 1907-08

Jean-Francios Millet, Man With A Hoe. 1863

Pablo Picasso, Life (La Vie). 1903

Willem de Kooning, Woman V. 1952-53

While some of these pieces are abstract, they all reveal excellent craftsmanship. From the color choice to the layout, all of these pieces are true masterpieces.

Still life assignment

As the school year continues, the class is trying to get as much work done as possible. Currently, we are working on reflective still life -- and yes, it is as hard as it sounds. I got a quick snapshot of the setup that we are supposed to draw using charcoal and conte:

I am, personally, not very good at drawing from life. I like to consider myself more of an imaginative drawer. So far, I think my project is coming along nicely, however.

Family Routines

Seeing as how every Homosapien family member in my intermediate family refuses to allow me to snap casual photos of them doing their daily tasks, I had to settle with what I was given -- even creeper-shots of my parents and brother. Although these pictures do not fully exemplify what my family and I do a daily basis, I believe this gives you, the viewer, a bit more of an insight to my personal life.

On a side-note, don't expect extraordinary artistic pictures, my friends. These were merely photos from my phone, not some high-tech camera. Enjoy.

My family, apart from my brother, typically eats a vegetarian-based diet six days out of the week. My mother always makes sure that our fruit and veggie supply is stocked and ready to go. She also makes the best salads I've ever had -- which are, not to mention, very low in calories and so flavorful that you won't even need dressing.

My brother, as stated previously, is basically the carnivore of the family. He eats meat all the time and could not go a day just eating fruits and vegetables. My family always eats dinner together every night to help stay connected and involved in each other's lives.

I am an absolute yoga fanatic. I have been practicing for a few months now, so I am still definitely a beginner, but I think I have improved dramatically since the first day I started doing yoga. Recently, however, I have finally convinced my parents to join me in my weekly Saturday yoga classes at the local gym. I think they like it.

As you can tell, this picture doesn't show much action at all. But don't let that fool you.
This is my almost-4-year-old German Shepherd Mia, and she is literally the most hyper dog I have ever came across in my life -- and trust me, I've met a lot of dogs. In order to tame her, my family and I have to give her three walks a day, as well as regular fetch sessions in our small backyard.

My mother (left) anxiously watches my brother, Jonathan, play in a tennis tournament along with his opponent's mother (right). I found this picture quite hilarious because it was truly shocking to see how restless these two mothers were just by watching their sons play tennis. My brother participates in tennis tournaments on a weekly basis, and I am required to attend for moral support. I don't mind, because I like watching sports, just not when it's over 95 degrees in the summertime.
